Are 126’s flammable??????

Just thinking out loud really. Still cant get mine to start. Ive tried a different carb, new ht leads, new spark plugs, new points and it still does not make even any slightly encouraging noises. It does have a spark, its getting petrol in the chambers so in my mind it should go. The only thing im thinking is the timing is out which I cant see how im going to set up without the engine running. Anything else I may be missing?

sounds odd darrel, spark and fuel means bang usualy  

even if timing was well out it would still do somthing, even start usualy.

does nothing happen at all? not even a slight splutter?

have you tired bump starting it? incase its the starter?

No, not even a splutter. Not really much point in bump starting as it is turning over fine. It has a brand new battery and the starter is turning it over effortlessly. Its really strange. I might have to buy a new condensor and try that???  Really running out of ideas now

are the spark plugs getting wet after you are trying to get it going? If they are you can usually eliminate the fuel side of things!
Is it a Bis or an aircooled?

Sorry, yes its a bis. The plugs are getting wet and they do smell of petrol, but I also know they are sparking??

I am no expert on the Bis model so perhaps someone else can advise a bit more.

It should be similar to the aircooled?? Remove distributor (mark position before you remove) new points and condenser, reset points with distributor out replace distributor and then check the ignition timing.

It only costs a few quid for this and at least you will know that side of things are then ok.

How are you testing for a spark?

test for spark is the spark plugs out, being grounded and turning the engine over.

yes they are, the early aircooled models are the best, no water to help put the fire out and shorting out the starter cable is a good way of lighting them up, when this happened to mine i was able to get hold of a fire extinguisher, but i rekon if you left it, it would go up pretty well. i think you'll find the de-ville is the best bet as the fabric sunroof burns well and the plastic bumpers are obviously a better prospect than the chrome bumpers. I am not sure about the FSM models, do they use a starter cable or do they have a key, if a key you may have to use an external source to ignite your 126, although it may be possible to rig something up with a spark plug and a bit of petrol.

I seem to remember that someone posted a link to burnt out car in poland as further proof that 126s are flamable

one other thing is needed to get the engine to start is compresion, if you have a blown head gasket or valves stuck open it is unlikely to start, or you could have just flooed the engine. If you know the valves and head gasket are ok, try turning the choke off and turning it over with full throttle to get more air in.

Ive got a mate coming over. Compression test is the only thing I have not tried.

My mate came over. After playing with the timing for about an hour he got it working  
Mot Next week and then on the road the week after. Yey.
