Hazard Flashers
« on: December 30, 2018, 08:48:45 AM »
Where should the hazard switch be on an '81 126?

Got one bulb on my dash that never lights up I reckon I should have hazards but someone has swapped switch for fog light.

Surely I need both for the MOT?

Cheers Simon

Not sure our cars have hazard lights, which is the bulb that never lights up?

The fog light isn't standard fitment is it?

Mine doesn't appear to be because the bumper has been cut to fit it.

I have 3 switches on the dash. Headlights, heated rear screen and fog light. Oh and the enormous handbrake light!

Hazard warning lights didn’t become compulsory on new cars in the UK until 1 April 1986 (but if an earlier car has hazards fitted, they must be working to pass the MOT).

My 1982 built 126 has a foglight but no hazards, I pretty sure that was the standard set up.

How very strange. The light on the dash directly below the 80mph line nd directly above the battery charge light on my car is partially illuminated at night time by the charge lamp when it's on. You can clearly see two concentric triangles in it.

Perhaps my car has the potential to run hazards but they just aren't fitted.

Unless this light is meant for something else?

Cheers

Well, that’s very unusual, I’ve not got that on any of my cars!

The standalone switch on the dashboard is not something that I’ve seen before either although my 1983 car which has foglights as standard also has an unusual switch arrangement which I thought as an amateur DIY job until I saw exactly the same on another car from that year!
