BIS choke mechanism repair (polish carb FOS 30 S2 H)
« on: September 02, 2018, 11:07:55 PM »
Hi all. Just about to go out for a spin yesterday, pulled choke lever up, felt very tight graunchy then loose (cable detached or snapped). Checked carb end and choke butterflys have dropped so totally open irrispective of lever position. So looks like mechanism between choke lever and butterflies has failed/become disconnected somehow. Would anyone know how to repair this?
Thanks.

They usually only ever snap at one of the ends. If it’s snapped at the carb end then you’ll have noticed it when you inspected the choke butterflies so it’s probably  at the lever end where it’s gone. If you whip off the cover around the handbrake lever you’ll see two 10mm bolts holding the lever down. Just undo them and see what the cable looks like there. The other scenario is that the linkage operating the butterflies has broke. On the Weber versions you can see it plainly but on the polish ones it’s not so obvious.

Thanks Gadge. On further inspection the cable has snapped inside car, lever end. Also carb end, the linkage between the carb rotary lever ball joint to butterflies has dissapeared. Guessing it's plastic as can just about see ball joint plastic on a picture from fiat126ricambi site as highlighted attached. It's route passes up thru a rectangle cavity which moves a rocker type lever by the looks of it opening the butterflies (underside carb pic attatched). Any idea where I could get this part/s and what it looks like, as cannot see anything available on usual sites.

I can't help you with the linkage but I do have a great way of changing the cable without too much fuss. Undo the cable at the carb end and get it as straight as possible and pull the inner cable out from the outer sleeve with a pair of pliers the insert a new inner cable back though. It does mean reusing the outer sleeve but it makes the job soooo much quicker
