126 EL starting problems.
« on: May 21, 2017, 09:44:04 PM »
I don`t know if there is many guys on here with one of these later distributorless 126s, but thought is worth a shot.
I`m having trouble starting our EL. It just takes a lot of cranking until it starts. Tried different methods, but it is still the same. I`m running it with an earlier standard carb as I thought it was the fuel cut off valve in the original carb giving me problems.
Once the car is warmed up it`s absolutely fine and starts no problem and the engine runs like a dream.
I`m just wondering if there is a trick to it or if I`m missing something?
What is the purpose of the vacuum pipe coming from the base plate of the carb?
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Have you tried pulling the accelerator pedal right back? I had a similar sounding problem with my red car, the pedal had lost its spring back, I pulled it back with my foot and it started up first time each time again no problem.

Could be that the fuel is draining back to the tank and its taking alot of cranking to bring it back to the carb
Yer tis a proper job cause i see little people

Thanks guys. Looks like it is sorted now.
I`ve disconnected the wiring from this device and it now starts on the button.
I guess it has something to do with cold starting as it`s connected to the carb via a vacuum pipe and it`s also connected to the electronic module.
Anyway the main thing is that is working as it should ;D.
