I've been running some more trials on coils.
I had heard that some of the twin cylinder 80's bikes were converting to coil on plugs.
COP'S (Coil on plugs)are a smaller coil which is bolted to the engine above the plug and uses a rubber sleeve and spring to connect to the plug. On modern petrol engines this allows the COP to replace the coil and the ht lead.
I've done a bit of digging and most COP'S are quite long, about 7" or so which would foul the carb. Made rx8 are small but are pricey.
Jaguar s-type 3.0 v6 petrol are reasonably priced and common enough as spares to find with ease. This engine is from the same family as the Ford v8.
I've made a small bracket which bolts.to the head just below the carb manifold using the 2 cowling bolts.

I'm waiting for some connectors as the wiring is temporary and probably won't cope well with the heat and the vibrations.
Early testing the car has done a few short runs which seem to have worked ok. There was a bit of spluttering which I'm hoping was due to the wiring / connectors.
I plan to set this up with 2 x hall effect vane sensors which will mean one coil firing per cylinder. At the moment it is running on points condenser and ballast resistor. Both coils are wasted spark at present.
