Cuba calling!!
« on: November 10, 2016, 03:07:14 PM »
Hi AvB, are you there?

Just browsing the web today and I came across this news item, from August - so many of you will probably have seen it already.

http://www.dw.com/en/polish-fiat-126p-sees-unlikely-cuban-revival/a-19464887

I had somehow gained the impression that the Polski was rather unusual in Cuba, but according to this item there are about 10,000 of them there  :o

Chris, better revise the quantity ordered for 2017 calendars!!

Sorry drcdb15, didnt see this!! i was a little but lost from the forum but im back!!!

Yes, indeed its right. We are seeing a slow, but steady, revival of Fiat 126p in Cuba. Remember that they were imported during the communist Polish Goverment in the 80's. There are thousands and thousands that were thrown away in back yards and parking lots, but recently the government has began to import many parts for these little cars, so people start to bring them back to life slowly. 2016 was the year of the revival, there is no doubt about that. Still 2017 is doing well, today i saw 7 126p's one behind another in a parking lot !!!. I often stop and chat with owners of 126s, they are pretty happy about the little fiat!

Im posting some new pics of my 126 and information, watch it in my thread!

PS: Hope you guys could visit Cuba sometime .. ill be more than happy to receive you :)!

Hey AvB, I think maybe that is *your* yellow 126 that is the star of this show, yes ? (only kidding :o)))

I love the Coco taxis, I love the A-pillar held together with sticky tape, I love that you can drive down the road with a guy sitting side-saddle on your rear wing!

I just hope this wonderful attitude to life (and cars!) that has developed in Cuba is not lost as it opens up to the rest of the world.

Bellissimo !!

Oh my word !
I have just watched this programme and it is amazing and quite emotional when you see other guys around the world who maintain their 126s to the same standard as me  :$
I am definately going to tie a red cloth to the back of my car when we are back on the road to ward off the evils and I can think of a couple of other forum members who will be doing the same. Made me wonder if the the 126 has a built in ACU as opposed to an ECU. The ACU being an Anti Capitalist Unit that kicks you in the butt every time you spend loads of cash, time and attention on your car  :o
The programme did make me feel like I wanted to send the equivalent of Red Cross parcels filled with 126 spare parts to Cuba, "think of the Bambinos" and definately a country worth a visit  :)

Whats up drcdb15!!

Ahahahah, my 126 doenst appear at this documentary :/, so sad!!! i have some parts that make mi 126 different for the majority!! well ... maybe next time :)

Today i went downtown, Old Havana, and tourist where going crazy, taking photos and saying hello to me. One guy comes up and says to me, "You are driving the best car of the world", i say, "i know it!", he said "Im from Poland, please let me take some pictures of you 126p" .. LOL!

Yes, we are very particular people in the world ... we have our problems, but our attitude its just different from everybody .. we love to keep our things in the best shape, taking aside problems at our country!

Hope you guys could make a trip to Cuba someday!

Take care.

Rustys ahahaha, i wish you could send Red cross parcels with 126 parts!!! they are needed here very urgently!!! :/

Personally i maintain mi 126 at the very best shape possible and i drive it, on a normal day, 80~100KM, taking aside trips to provinces nearby Havana!

Its my first car, and so far i can tell you its very unlikely i will sell it someday ... it will stay for me forever :)

Cheers!!!
