Valve springs
« on: September 19, 2016, 10:34:49 PM »
Hey all, Pulling apart my BIS today to do the headgasket and I found that I've somehow managed to snap a valve spring whilst driving >:( Are these the correct ones to replace them with? http://www.ricambio.co.uk/69-fiat/72-classic-fiat-126-parts/155-mechanical--engine-parts/1305-complete-kit-of-valve-springs--classic-fiat-500-126 thanks. :)

No those are from an aircooled version. BIS ones are just single springs on there own (they don't have the little Spring in the middle) not sure where to get them from?

Do you reckon the larger springs are same diameter? I've been googling for the past few days and can only find the larger with the smaller, I've got nothing against binning the smaller, I just want to drive my bis again ;D

Have you tried a Fiat main agent to see if they can supply a spring or possibly a motor factor. Reckon it is worth a try but if that fails then measure one of your good springs and I can compare it to an air cooled one  :)

I'm back down the garage today so i'll measure it up, I bit the bullet and ordered the ones I found from Ricambio, everything else that i've had from there that says "all models" has fitted, so we'll see  :P

Thankyou! any help is appreciated :) I just want to drive her again!

Hey Rusty :) I measured them earlier, I got 26.5mm width by 47.5mm length that's uncompressed and out of the car though :D

On another note I'm still waiting for my engine gasket set from LPGarage to come, I've heard Sunriser is a member.. ;)

I measured two different used sets. They both came out at 29.5 wide and one set 47.5 long and the other 50 mm long  :)

Thanks Rusty! I'm gonna try and see if the aircooled ones will work.. Unlikely but whatever, other choice is ringing fiat, but the fiat dealer near me are pooe for anything that isn't a new 500  ::)

I rang fiat main today and they don't have ANY bits for a BIS.. or that's what the woman said to me, and obviously don't stock them. I'm currently in talks with 1973/126 about some BIS bits he has in the shed :)

There are two online companies that stock these valve springs. It's part number 7664146.

I have never used either of these companies, so I do not know how reliable they are..

Thanks Chris, 1973/126 went through his shed and sorted me out, but I'll definitely keep these links for future reference if I break any more, I should probably tame my right foot a bit! Haha!  ;D
