Polish MOTs

Hi

I have seen a few imports that have Polish MOT's on them. Does anyone know what this test covers? My last import car had shocking welding and was full of expanding foam!

To be honest, not a lot! my last few on various makes and models have taken less than 10 minutes.

Normally goes like this:

Rolling road brake tests: front, rear and handbrake.
VIN check against logbook
Headlights check, not alignment - just that they light up and indicators as he drives onto the ramp.
Suspension and steering checks by virtue of a hydraulic operated plate that shakes your car to the left and right a few times.
A cursory walk under the car looking up at the floor with a torch - No touching or poking involved.
Give him 100zl (approx £20) and you're on your way.

Hasn't changed in the 10 years I've been taking my cars to various different test stations.

My brother-in-law's last car passed it's Polish MOT without the car even being presented at the testing station.  Says it all really.

Thanks folks. I thought this was the case. Do you know how long you can drive an import car on its original plates/MOT before having to UK test it? UK insurance obviously.  Thanks

As a UK citizen, you should declare the car on NOVA as soon as you've bought it.  I had UK insurance on the VIN which gave me 30 days to get an MOT and get it registered.

Was talking to a chap recently who has moved to the UK from Sweden with his XJS, he told me it was a year to get British plates. Presumably you need UK insurance from day 1, since [his] Swedish insurance would only give him holiday use in the UK (hence would not include commuting, business use etc), and UK MoT from whenever the Swedish one expires. Not sure about Road Tax - given the recent changes in UK law about tax ending as soon as a vehicle is sold I imagine UK VED is payable from day 1 as well.

As far as I'm aware you are not allowed to drive a foreign registered car in the UK if you are a UK resident.

You can as a foreign national drive your car for up to 6 months before having to register it in the UK as long as it's insured in its original country of registration.
