126 windscreen
« on: April 12, 2016, 05:43:52 PM »
hi guys my 126 was recently victim to mindless vandalism and the windscreen was smashed by some lowlife. i see you can purchase new ones from ricambio but its collection only. does anyone know of any courier or delivery services that would be able to get it to me in one piece? the distance is too much for me to travel.
thanks in advance!
Adam

How urgently do you need it, and what size is it, roughly, length x width (I don't have a 126 myself) ?

Incidentally, a laminated screen for a Mini is only £30+VAT http://www.heatedwindscreen.com/acatalog/Rover.html

Are you sure that Ricambio price is the best price you can find?  Moss will ship a screen for £35, so if you could get them to get you a screen for less than £230 you'd be better off going there.

I can't see a 126 screen offered by Axel Gerstl, but their 500 screens are only about 100 euros. That Ricambio price is eye-watering! Have you tried any European suppliers?

Hi, there's a 126 windscreen on eBay for £50+30 postage. The item is from Genuine Audi Volkswagen parts and it is click and collect at Argos.

A bit far away to pick up one from me. I have one with a star in it that is apparently legal as it isnt in the driver's view. You could have had it  ::)

My offer is this: I can get to Wallington easily to collect the Ricambio screen. I can crate it for transit, then deliver it personally to Edinburgh on about 22 April iirc or thereabouts as I will be going to see family there by train. Then Adam (I presume that's your name from 'Adama') can collect it at his/her leisure from just across the forth.

I could equally take any screen from doon sooth if the donor can get it to me. Darrell, wher are you located?

Ah, I see you did give your name, oops, sorry! Anyway, that eBay screen is now REDUCED to £42.50, it's on Buy It Now so if I were you I'd snap it up, delivery in 3 days, far faster than I could get one to you but my offer stands if you want the Ricambio one.

Remember you'll need to renew the weatherseal at the same time, unless you want to be going round the screen with the sealant gun. Weatherseals widely available, I noticed one on eBay at around £21 but there may be cheaper ones out there.

Shipping windscreens is obviously a specialist area, and Moss charge £30+VAT (iirc) just for the box. The box is a triple wall construction. I used to import breakable glass-like materials from the States in a former life, and the boxes they used to ship to me were triple-wall, and built like tanks, so I'm not surprised. They were far too good to throw away, and I'm still using them for storing stuff in my loft, over 30 years later! Yes, just (not so!) ordinary cardboard boxes!

You might find this item interesting: obviously someone has given a lot of thought to the issues of shipping windscreens:
