4 wheel disk brake set up to handle 300hp
« on: April 03, 2016, 01:28:03 PM »
Hi guys,
I have a FSM Niki that i am doing an engine conversion on. I need a solution for the brakes that will handle 300hp +
I am putting 13 inch wheels on the car. It will also be getting coilover suspension. I would like to change the stud pattern to 4 x 100 if possible as well but i dont know enough about this to know if it can be done.
Is there anyone here that can help me out with this problem? I would like to make a list of everything i will need to make this happen.

Also, i am in Australia so i may not have access to the same model cars you have overseas or they may be called something different here.

Thanks in advance

This sounds like another 126 being cut up for another (economically) impossible bike engine conversion, so over to you, Gadge  ;D

So, you want to put 300bhp into a body shell designed to handle only 10% of that power, but you don't know what's involved in changing 130 or 98 PCD to 100 PCD....

Well i guess i cant say i know everything like you... There's always a purist/hater that doesn't like the idea of modifying beyond what they think they need. I've also sorted out the brakes so i guess there isn't much more to this.

We cant pass a car legally here with a bike engine so that was never an option.

Don't worry mate, i'll send you a picture of it when its done and you can hang it on your wall ;)

Nah let him do it......I'ld love to (finally) see one done so I can just copy and paste a link of it to everyone who keeps asking us lot how to do it.

Fat650 sorry for piddling on your chips but no helpful advice can be given as we are the wrong guys to ask about massive engine conversions. We restore and maintain standard/mildly modified niki/126s. This forum is littered with people asking the same question as you - all confident that they can teach us lot a lesson and get the job done and yet no one (and I mean no one) has yet proven that a powerful engine can be suitably fitted into a 126 a road legal version is even harder as the work involved would be huge - what engine? where would it go? What gearbox (don't even think about using the niki one) rear suppension? The old set up won't do it'll be in the way it you transverse the motor in the back - all has to be thought of.

Maybe ask a custom car forum or hot rod club for more info as at the time of wrighting this there is currently no member that I know of that either owns one or has successfully completed one - and they all tell us that they'll send us a picture  :P

smallcox is probably the closest person that has a high powered 126. its not easy and here the legal test sva or what ever it is called now isn't the easiest test to pass. good luck with your project.

In answer to your question there are plenty of off the shelf brake conversion plates (or complete kits if your pockets are deep enough) you can buy that use readily available parts from other fiats (puntos, x19's etc) and with performance pads and disks given the low weight of the 126 they should easily stop the car, I have a full brake disc conversion on my car so it can be done.

As for the 4x100 conversion you can step a 4x98 to 4x100 using wobble bolt as long as they are mounted hub-centrically or using the appropriate spigot rings you should be ok using wobblies.

Jesus give the guy a break.
I'm new here and where I come from we are friendly to new people. In fact friendly to all.

Its called club 126 and he has one, so what if its non standard and I certainly recon he knows that there is a shed load of work to be done with out the helpful comments.

Remember, anyone can restore a car but it takes a real man to cut one up.

Don't despair at some of the comments, as far as I am concerned it doesn't matter how much you modify the car by. If it's only minor cutting lumps out to smooth the body or fit a more powerful engine it's all up to you. There are a few 126's with fire engines fitted and running in Britain not to mention the Boss brothers with their v8 powered, mr 2 powered and some other engine in a third and all road legal.  There are several fiat 500's with Subaru engines even some with the subagears gearbox conversion to allow all that power to grip the road. Admittedly I have only seen road legal fire engine conversion on this site. It's up to you and I can't wait to follow your build. If I can find a builder to build my garage I will be able to continue with my Subaru conversion, I have the engine mated to a bis gearbox ready for a trial fit, but as I say it won't go any further until I have a dry environment to work in. All the best.
