Plastic door trims
« on: June 09, 2006, 09:49:34 AM »
My plastic door trims on the '87 are light grey and mottled and horrible    I've tried back-to-black, Son of a Gun andstuff like that but nothing worked.  On closer examination there seems to be a plastic base moulding with a textured top layer.  The top layer has gone "dosey" and you can scrape it off with your finger nail.

On a spare one I've tried sanding off the top textured bit (fairly easy) and painting with satin black paint.  The result was better than before but not ideal.

Anyone got any suggestions?  Or actually anyone got any spare ones to sell - I'd need the door parts and the 2 other bits on the side of the car.  I think they're the same as the BIS?

ta,

austin

P.S. :smt072 <-- anyone remember this from Unreal Tournament?

yer sounds like they need repainting, ive just cleaned my car and my plastic bits are grey, alot of people recomend shoe polish, but you may as well just respray them with plastic paint.

go forth to halfords and buy yourself a tin of matt black spray paint . it worked so good on the plastic i sprayed the whole car with it!  if you require a lustrous finish cover with a clear spray on laquer.

Thanks for the advice.  Looked in B&Q for Plasticoat but couldn't find it.  Think I'll have a go with the satin black...  :)
