BIS parts prices on the up?

Just came across this on eBay from a very optermstic German seller who's selling a used but complete BIS engine and gearbox for a stonking €1500
that's over £1100!!! Now you would think that you would get free shipping for such a high price but no, after you've folked out the price of a holiday to buy the thing, he wants you to pay £250 to ship it to your door!
take good care of your head gaskets guys, it seems a running engine may well be a future investment

I did see that one of our forum members has a Bis crankcase on ebay that has only done 4K miles so I would think that it is a pretty rare item and a good basis for an engine build. As you say Gadge love the one you have but good engine parts for the Bis are likely to get scarce compared to the air cooled cars.

Yes indeed rusty I totally agree - more so if such items are being discarded in favour of bike engine conversions
thanks to people like piotross there's still a large number of pieces still readily avalible at good prices. I managed to build an engine from parts that were 80% brand new which were sourced from all over Europe for far, far less than £1100. I've also noticed that the price of the BIS models are on the up with even scruffy ones fetching over £1000.

I think the prices are up in general on these cars. In Poland, the home of the 126 the prices have risen sharply in the last couple years where even plane jane newer ELX models are asking 1000 euros in many cases!!
BIS models are rare in Poland too so prices aren't low..

I've also noticed quite a few 126 Bis on sale on ebay and Car and Classic selling for well over £2,500. Some were selling for £3K+. Hopefully, the rarity value of the Bis will push prices northwards in the years to come.
