F.I.R.E Engine Conversion
« on: December 03, 2015, 09:55:13 PM »
Hi guys... slightly new to here so apologies if late replying or not doing things the right way! Picked up a fiat 126 around this time last year as part of a restoration project but with a twist.. involving body dropping the car to sit on the seals also correcting pa8ntwork issues and so on.

However!.......

After havingreceived the car back since i have decided now to have a play with the engine to put something with a bit more ooph to it so after various research i came across a thread with a chap who fitted a fire engine  one to his fiat 500. Was curious as to wether there is anythreads on here that show any process of the conversion taken place?

As I'm concerned about who to go to for adapter plates to convert the gearboxes together.

also the bellhousing that needs to be useds?

And wether the shafts line up?

If anyone has any information or can pass me on to someone who may know

Many thanks!

Will have pictures to follow!

Hi, what I will say is that to my knowledge there is not 1 road legal bike engine conversion engine on the roads in the UK.

There are so many people cutting up the 126's and trying to put an engine in, if you search around on the forums you will find boat loads of threads looking at the conversions.

Good luck though! :)

The main problem with these engine conversions from the standard motor is the IVA Test and the implementation of this test. Check out this thread  http://club126uk.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=10114.msg75054#msg75054

 Welcome to the forum.
If you type Fiat 126 swap in google images it will come up with loads of results.
This s one of them that come up.

These are very popular in Poland and it`s probably a better way going about it than a bike engine conversion. If you clever about the design you won`t need an IVA test either.
I would say it would be worth upgrading the drive shaft couplings for tripods as the original ones are not designed to take that sort of power.
What is you car an air cooled or a bis? Have you got any photos of it?

A Fiat FIRE engine into an aircooled 126 body has been done many times and is legal, its people trying to put motorbike engines into the BIS that never works.

If it ain't broken, fix it anyway (just because).
