Engine swap
« on: May 15, 2015, 11:42:40 PM »
I'm not really fond of the whole engine swap thing but something just crossed my mind today.

As rotary engines are very compact, would there be a chance there is one that would fit?

I would've thought so and so long as the rotation is the correct way you may get away with using the 126 gearbox. Not sure if you'll get on in a BIS though

At Retro Rides a couple of years ago we were discussing this as there was a Triumph Herald with this conversion, Smallcox who built his wide bodied turbo reckoned it would fit into the aircooled engine bay without a problem and would be an easier option to create a great sleeper,
The only problem you would have is that you would have to fabricate a new bulkhead, but you should also check what the regulations are in Belgium for that type of modification ;)

Somehow I dont think gearboxes would last very long and fuel consuption of rotaries is rubbish.

Should fit though, we measured it.
