bleeding heater matrix
« on: May 01, 2015, 07:58:57 AM »
Hi all, im full of questions this week lol

My heater is very very poor, ive treid and tried to bleed it but its still luke warm at best. I cant a good flow from the bleed pipe, it starts to come out after a bit but then stops and takes air back in.

The pipe to the matrix gets hot but the return is nowhere near as hot :)

The car gets warm but does seem to take a while, was beginning to think someones taken the themostat out, will i get poor flow to the heater if it has been removed?

Cheers  :)

Obviously you need to make sure the coolant level is high enough, and the engine up to full temperature so the thermostat is open, then turn the heater lever to full hot and get someone to sit it the car with their foot on the gas to hold the revs up then undo the heater bleed valve, let coolant bleed out and then close it before any air is sucked back in when the revs drop. Nothing came out of mine without increasing the engines speed because the water pumps pressure is too little at idle, and my system doesn't hold pressure anyway.

If the systems working correctly it will belt out the heat so you may need to look at the heater valve itself to make sure it's letting water through to the matrix. You can see it working by having a look under the passenger side parcel shelf. If you mover the lever the cable should open and close it.

Ah ok, thanks.
Defiantly something wrong with mine then as its very poor, i will look at the valve later after work then try and bleed it again and investigate more if i still get no joy  :thumbup

My heaters working now  :yahoo:

I checked the thermostat and that was working ok so i decided  flush hoses and matrix.
I put the hose pipe on the bottom pipe from the matrix and the water never came out the other end? so i placed the hose pipe on the engine side and i heard a gurgle so ran round the front  and water was coming out, so i tried  the hose pipe back on the pipe at the matrix end and it flowed ok so i must have had a blockage in the pipe somewhere.

anyway, i'm glad it working now   :D

  • It's not the carb size that matters, it's the jet

Great you got it working but I think you better flush your cooling system.

A proper flush kit is available in a store near you
