126 Gearbox Sockets
« on: January 25, 2015, 04:47:15 PM »
Hi does anyone know the size of the female square socket required for the side of the gearbox for refilling?

and where to get one from? My 15mm hex socket doesn't quite fit and my 16mm hex socket is a touch too big! poop!!

Also whats the size of the female hex gearbox drain plug? All i have up to is 10mm Allen keys and its not big enough!!
Im guessing its 12mm or there about?! The drain plug Axel Gerstl sell is a male plug but mines female?!

Thanks

It's better to use ring spanner for the filling plug, worked easier in my case,I think it's a 15.(open end spanner as a second option)
Hex key you need is a twelve.

Failing that if you get a 1/2 drive socket extension turn it around and lightly tap the ratchet end onto the plug - it fits perfectly - then attach a 12mm socket on the 1/2 end of the extension and turn it. I've done this a few time

Well no joy at all with the filler plug!!

Who the hell makes it bloody square in the first place!!!!

can't get a spanner on it not enough room to move the spanner!
it doesn't help its probably been over tightened in the past either!

so again today no joy and now its dark so feeling >:(

Plus just to top it off ripped off the bee hive bloody bump stop!! Grrrrr! >:(

The 1/2" socket extension, hammered on in reverse with a 1/2" / 13mms open ended spanner on the end never fails unless the square has been damaged  :)

It's never failed me either! :D it's probably tight because it's never been off before.

I used a 1/2" socket fitted backwards that accepted my largest Allen key socket in the other side.  I then used a nice long extension on the ensemble and it unscrewed without a wimper  ;D

Well making progress on the little 126! Finally got round to  sorting the filler plug on the gearbox, the 1/2 extender bar with a socket on that and a long bar was just enough to sort it out!! Pleased I got a new replacement!! It certainly looks as though it hasn't been off before. So with that done this morning changed plugs, renewed a leaky rocker cover gasket and prepared for rear cross member removal! Busy few days ahead!!
