All back together...and....guess what.....it still does it

Its definitely not as bad but is still pretty horrific when trying to pull away up a hill and hard to "drive around".

Clutch arm bushes were in a right state as the upper bush had been spinning in the bellhousing leading to ~5mm slop in the arm.  This had meant the clutch fork was mostly pushing on the bottom arm which had a wear grove along with a matching score on the clutch cover fingers ie that looked a likely culprit.  The bushes were replaced with new.  I robbed the unworn operating fork off my other gearbox along with the clutch plate (slightly less wear than the other one) and unscored clutch cover.   The main input shaft bearing/seal appeared quite worn so was replaced with a complete new assembly.  The crank spigot bearing was not replaced as it appeared fine.  All splines etc in the drive line fine.  Gearbox internals looked OK on visual inspection (even 1st gear) and there was no swarf in the oil.

What could it be?  The clutch now "feels" lovely and fast starts on the level in both first and second are fine.  Its only when I tried to pull away up-hill that I get the violent shaking/knocking.  There is no hint of clutch slip and the car drives lovely once moving. The more rpm and the slower the clutch release the better so it does feel a little like a contaminated clutch lining.  Surely, however, the clutch is eliminated as the chance of both clutches suffering from the same fault must be minimal (and both were worn evenly with no oil contamination)?  All I am left with is the thought that it is the engine/gearbox hitting somewhere.  The gearbox mounts are nearly new and the gearbox is hanging well. Why did the fault appear suddenly overnight? I still worry about the main engine mount.  Perhaps the extra long bolt and additional nut) are hitting the body and causing it to bounce?  Any other ideas welcome before I tear my hair out......

Thanks,

Keith

I would check the 2 rear engine mounts as they damp the movement of the engine laterally and help stop the engine twisting

I assume you mean the two circular mounts that clamp to the floor from which the gearbox hangs?  If so, they have been changed in the last few years as they are still shiny.  Of course, they could be poor pattern parts letting the rear of the engine/gearbox wag around too much......

Thanks!
