Bis brake master cylinder leaking
« on: August 23, 2014, 05:21:23 PM »
Hi guys, got around to addressing what I thought was a dodgy hose clip. Turns out the master cylinder is leaking from the cap (where the pipe goes in?). anything I can do to fix it? I've not taken it off the car yet as again a little disheartened :).

I need to find a cheap replacement I guess!

Ahhh... well today I figured I could see the master cylinder from in the frunk :(. Doh... spent part of a day wasted underneath the car with brake fluid and all kinds of debris falling into my eyes and all over me (whilst lying uncomfortably on the floor!).

It seems both rubber seals on top (the two parts for front and rear brake fluid circuit top up) may be perished as they are leaking (the one nearest to the rear of the car is worse) from around the plastic push in pipe connectors... are new seals available? Perhaps I could try some PTFE tape or similar (if it doesn't perish with brake fluid!) around the plastic push in part?

As you can get a complete brand new master cylinder for £23 off ebay, it might be better to change the whole unit rather than muck about trying to patch your one up.

I managed to get seals from 126fan as its the same as the air cooled, fitted today. All sorted :). I think the original leak was from the plastic elbow which pushes in the seal which had split.  I plastic welded it backup as I can't source replacements and finally we are leak free!
