Waterless coolant
« on: August 19, 2014, 07:08:26 PM »
Seriously thinking of buying some. The rear crank seal is leaking slightly so I'm gonna have to remove the engine which requires draining the coolant so might as well use the opportunity.

Has anyone ever used waterless coolant before? I imagine it would be a huge benefit on an engine that runs very close to boiling point most of the time?

I was actually waiting on feedback from someone else before I try it. The only people I know that say it's good are the people that sell it. Though a friend of mine heard that it keeps the engine too cool.
I'm messing with the cooling on my car this week so i might give it a go.

Looks good.  :o Boils at 180deg/c

I wonder what will replace the mayo in the oil if the head gasket goes?

I love that program, will they do a 126?

Sounds good to me, better make sure all your hoses are good and there are no leaks as that's an expensive top up.

Sadly I've only got one car that is water cooled and adding water less coolant to it would probably double its value.

I've a couple of cars including the bis which I'd like to try it out on. Perhaps my MR2 also but the bis is closer to being on the road!

Well I've bitten the bullet and dug the change from the back of the sofa and bought some. Your right barron_matt it's not cheap - £90 for 5 litres of prep fluid and 5 litres of waterless coolant  :o. And I have a feeling I may need more but I am determined to make any head gasket problems a thing of the past! Whatever it takes!  :D

I hear that Gadge... I still have a bit of an issue with it leaking from the block/water jacket with this rubbish last headgasket I put on, but no leaks into the combustion chamber. Hoping the next solid copper gasket I will get from Piotr in Poland will help, if not i'll throw in some k-seal for good measure for a short while... and then perhaps take such a plunge for the waterless coolant! Will have to update us and let us know the deal with how the car runs :D.

Yes I deffinatly will. I also have ordered one of those solid copper gaskets too so may well chuck that on when I do the change for good measure :)
