Hi all
Well last weekend with the help of some friends, we pulled the engine out of the 126 in order to change the Alternator and the tired starter motor.
I had obtained reconditioned items of both ready for the engine coming out.
All went well and the Alternator was removed from the block with lots of white powder falling from the Alternator stand (cocaine smuggling

?), but we ran into trouble removing the pulley drive boss. In short it would not shift at all, and in the end shattered.
Rusty came to the rescue with a spare and the new parts were fitted, with the engine going back in late in the day.
On first run up all seemed fine, all connections were good and correct. On the test run however the Charging light came on and stayed on permanently. At first I thought it was belt slip or that the belt had snapped, but this was sound. Nothing was hanging off and everything appeared normal.
Voltmeter test however showed that Alternator was not giving out 14.4V and only 12V was measured from the connection off the back. All terminals were good and Battery was secure and connected correctly.
I'm thinking that the alternator has just failed internally so I'm sending it back to the outfit I purchased from.
Is there anything else I should check before I do?
Kind Regards
Matt
