FIAT 126 Carburettor Options
« on: May 10, 2014, 08:45:11 AM »
I've decided to rebuild my 126 BIS engine that I've recently acquired. The first thing I found on taking off some of the ancillaries is that the butterfly valve is broken on the carb. I've been searching the net and can't seem to find any of these for sale and they don't appear to be included in any of the overhaul kits.

The carb is a 30 S2 H. What I'm wondering therefore, is whether there is a cheap alternative carb I can get, or whether I need to buy a Weber at approx £300+. I'm not that concerned about performance at this point, just want to see the engine running.

Thanks

Not certain what you mean by butterfly valve. I have both the FOS 30 S2 H and the weber 30 dgf. I prefer the FOS, but the choke mechanism is fragile. Check out Axle Gerstle online shop, I ordered repair kits for both carbs two days ago from them so they can definitely get them.

Marc

Can you post photos of the broken bit?

Both of the brass plates have broken. If I could get two replacements then yes, it could be repaired but from searching on-line I couldn't see anywhere that did them. I'll look again at the rebuild kits. Thanks.

Hmmm I believe you might be able to get replacement as i'd found a picture somewhere on a polish site offering the exact part for sale lol. it may even be the same from the weber?

Thats it...

Perhaps? Cinq 700 weber 30/32 dgf I think they're for, but looks damn similar to me.

The whole part on the right on the half moon part of the rod was missing on my carb so had to make something to do everything from the rod to the point on the choke lever :).

This is a photo of the part - slightly different to the one you posted poxxxy, although it may be possible to adapt it. Would be good to find someone who sells the exact part though.

Damn that looks like it had some abuse! :). I would love to find some spares for the fos but I'm not sure they exist and I think only the polish will be able to help us with original parts unless someone has a spare! Although you could just put a sock over it till warmed up lol.

What does the repair kit consist of Marc? I doubt this part is included! :D.

No, the repair kit doesn't have that piece.
You do have both complete parts for a pattern, do you know anyone who could make them? Much easier than trying to buy them. Worth a go yourself, just find a friendly garage with a guillotine and some offcuts of the right gauge, buy a file and four holes. They have to be close, but you will probably be ok if they are not exact. The holes have to be in the right place and they must not be too big at any point. See if you can get use of a pillar drill for the holes. Think they need a thread tapping in as well.
I think that poxxy posted the weber carb butterflies.
If you just want to test the engine bolt a plate partially over both venturis using the air box bolt, not a fix by any means but will allow you to get it running. Banger racer trick.

How did you manage to remove the shaft from the housing? I gave up trying to fix my top butterfly for the choke and now running without it so you might be able to have my valves for some beer money? :).
