It's on the side by the starter motor. Looks like a square 1/2 inch plug.

Thanks,  I think that it has been located,  it has an oversize bolt in it, will try and post a picture.

Is this where the gearbox oil filling should be?

This is it on the bis, not sure if aircooled is the same...I found this pic some time ago.

good luck with undoing it, had a go at mine today and cant budge it, had a search tonight on the forum and found this method which I have yet to try, but sounds good...

"use a short 1/2" drive socket extension , reverse it & tap it onto the square plug head then it is easy to get a spanner on the square end of the extension and makes it much easier to get a good hold on the plug"

Try this:
Take a 12 mm half-inch drive long nose socket, preferable a hexagonal one as opposed to the bi-hex design.
Hammer the square end on to the filler plug. Then insert a large 12 mm Allen key in the hexagon end and turn.
If you don't have such a big Allen key then a hex bit socket and driver will do.

You can use any matching socket and Allen key e.g 10mm socket and 10mm Allen key, I just chose 12mm because it gave a big enough Allen key to put enough torque on to undo the plug.
