Hello, New owner of a 1990 BIS from West Yorkshire
« on: March 04, 2014, 08:52:27 AM »
Hi everyone, thought I would introduce myself after a long time lurking.  Just acquired a 1990 126 BIS for my son. It will be his first car, he's wanted one since the first time he saw one in Poland. This site has been invaluable when looking for a BIS, what to look out for etc.  The car only has 8,000 miles ? on it, apart from some small rust under the front lip of the bonnet the rest of the car is clean and tidy. It's taxed and tested so ready to use straight away.  Having never driven one before I realise the brakes are not the best, need to plan a head for any braking.  My son has a few plans insurance permitting, but I think once we get her home that we'll be looking at getting a front disc brake conversion, electronic ignition and possibly electronic fuel pump to make the car more reliable. I'm good with a set of spanners but no good at welding. Took the whole family to look at her when we first saw her. The whole family smiled and laughed.  don't think any other car has had that effect on them before.  Simon.

Hi, thanks guys. Looking forward to driving it. My son is biting at the bit to get behind the wheel.  Reminds me when I had a beetle, every time you passed another on the road they waved back at you. Will post some pictures when it arrives.

Hi everyone. Got the car today. Took it for a quick spin. Couldnt stop laughing. These 126's are so fun to drive.  No stereo fitted not even a speaker. But who needs one when there so much fun. Started on a list of little jobs that need sorting, tidying up. Polished the bonnet came up like new. Going to do the rest of the car this weekend. Will post some photos my son took today bit later on.  Im definitely up for a meet in leeds.

Hello and welcome to the Forum. I bought mine over five years ago now, I think, how time flies. It was and still is the best buy ever. Every time I go for a drive, I tell myself, as I start the engine, the adventure begins!
