Head lights and Indicators
« on: February 24, 2014, 08:41:19 PM »
Hello

Really annoyed today as I have sorted a few minor electrical issues,  tonight I drove to the garage ready for a MOT tomorrow and driving down a country lane the headlights went off and the indicators stopped working,  even though the garage will sort it out does anyone have any ideas what it could be?

Thanks Ray

Obvious place to start is the Fuses, Have you tried flicking the headlight switch and the dip/main beam switch just in case the contacts are dirty other than that its out with the multimeter, work your way back from the lights until you get 12volt Live.

Hi Pete,  tried the flicking of the switches and checked the fuse which was okay.  Unfortunately it was dark and late so the garage will have to sort it.  Damn nuisance but hey it's a Fiat !!

Just a thought but after checking the obvious stuff, have you or someone else upgraded the light bulbs from H4's to H5's?

The previous owner of mine had and it caused something in the light/indicator assembly on the steering column to fuse/melt.
It seems to be quite common as it overloads the system and can melt any of the switches.
Mine was off the road for ages with this and it was only the kind help from the forum that led to me tracking it down.

BTW.
Here's the thread. Bit long. :(
