126 interior head lining
« on: February 01, 2014, 12:47:12 PM »
Any one got any idea of how to remove the interior head lining in a 126 without damaging it?
The covering material has rotted away and I would like to replace it.

Just rip it out for that biscuit tin feel.

I had a serious issue with my head lining dropped big time I managed to rip all the cloth out and snap the hardboard lining to have a lovely clean roof well happy , but have had the car parked up for weeks and had condensation on the ceiling hence have to leave window down a tad to stop this happening

Yep. I too like mine without the roof lining but I get a bit of condensation in the cold but a blast with the heater and the window down a bit solves it.

OK head lining up date.
Once the hardboard base was out the worst job was to remove all the old glue and disintegrated foam sticking to it. Using brush on glue, NOT spray glue, it was quite simple to stick new material on the base. Putting it back in the car was childishly simple, just bend the middle down, the sides up and it literally springs back into place, having used the old piece of material as a pattern there was a strip hanging down over the top of the rear window rubber, which simply tucks in behind it.

How did you get rid of all the old glue? I've got to do that job on my red car...

White spirit and a not too sharp scraper, meth's might work, if so it would probably dry quicker. And lots of elbow grease!
