Evening
« on: January 20, 2014, 07:34:45 PM »
Just wanted to say hello

Just joined and looking to find out more on the FIAT 126. No stranger to Air cooled cars as have had a large number of small odd Citroens over the years and some of the bigger ones too.

Looking to fulfill a 20 year ambition and run a 126. My knowledge of them is basic so hoping that peeps on here can tell me what to look for in order for me to find a good one.

I'm based not far from Amersham in Bucks so if there is anyone local who wants to talk 126's I'm happy to listen.

Cheers

Matt

Hi Mat
Apart from all the usual mechanical points, such as king pins and bushes steering joints and rubber sleeves etc. ignition can be a bit touchy, just like any other car of it's era. The big thing to look for is 'RUST':- floor panels, inner and outer sills, all wheel arches and the bottom of the spare wheel well are the main points to check.
Good hunting.

I take it the standard 126 with the 650 is a bit more robust than the BIS?

Will PM you rusty as I'm going to need some pointers.

Well thanks to Rusty, both myself and Beri my missus are now 126 fans and we are on the look out for one to replace her Volvo 340.

So if anyone hears of one can they let me know. I don't mind if its left hand drive either, ideally it needs to be in good condition.

Still unsure whether to go BIS or Aircooled at this stage. Any advise on that? BIS seems to be a bit rare.

Cheers

Matt

Well a member from the DAF Owners Club came up from Brighton last night to collect Lulu the Variomatic Volvo, so the hunt for an air cooled 126 is now on.

Not too fussed about right hand drive or left hand drive, as its a narrow car, the only pre requisite is that it ideally has to be pre 1994 so that I can put it on my current insurance policy.

Anyway looking forward to finding one and joining in the fun of 126 ownership.

Regards

Matt
