Starting Advice etc..
« on: January 19, 2014, 06:41:11 PM »
Hello

Just need some advice please on starting my 126,  what is recommended, foot on the accelerator choke fully up?  Also why are there 2 choke leavers and what do they do?

She did start but I left her to run as she was spluttering but when she warmed up all was well.

Another thing it was a bumpy ride a bit like my Morris Minor but I am not sure if this is normal or not.

Any advice is more than welcome.

Thanks  Ray

Hi Ray, I always start mine with gear in neutral, foot down on the clutch and the choke lever up fully.  I then pull the other lever (the starter lever) until it starts.  Aas the car starts to warm up I then gradually lower the choke lever.  For best results I always leave the car running 4-5 minutes before setting off.

Bumpy ride could be anything, it might be that it's not been used for a while in which case if you do use it more it might improve.  Failing that cleaning things like the carb etc. 9the other chaps can help advise much better than me here) will certainly help improve performance.

Good luck - looking forward to seeing some more pictures when you get chance!

Hi Bar Vitelli

Thanks for the advice,  I think that my expectations were too high, getting in turning the key then driving straight off!!.

I know my Morris Minor suspension is not good and was wondering if it was the same with the 126.

Thanks

Ray

Thanks Gason,  still trying to get the list of things done on the failed MOT but the weather isn't helping.
