Gearbox oil leak and suspect gearbox mounts?
« on: January 17, 2014, 12:37:49 PM »
I am guessing the oil leaks are due to the Drive shaft inner boots, I have had a shop round and it appears there are two types available, one with metal bushing and one with rubber bushing, does anyone know which ones I should buy. Anyone know whats involved in doing this job, is there a how to?

Also I have noticed the transmission mounts rubbers are perished, should I replace these or should they be ok. Is it a straight forward job?

Thanks guys.

If the rubber boot itself is not ripped or broken, you might get away with replacing an oil seal. There's an oil seal ring (similar to a crankshaft oil seal) in a metal housing inside the rubber boot. You can gently pop it out and knock in a new one.
Its OEM number is: 40001720, and Corteco has it in its range on 12011443B
Replacing the rubber boot is pretty straightforward by the way.
Classic, not plastic :)
