97 126el Edinburgh
« on: November 26, 2013, 03:18:33 AM »

After a trip to Krakow for my 21st a couple of years ago when I spent the whole weekend drooling over 126s it was inevitable I would end up with one, they just make me smile!
So I finally took the plunge and bought one from a polish guy on eBay this week. Polish documents so yeah, bit risky. Anyway good thing is there's hardly any rust but otherwise who knows. I've had to get the jump leads out every time and even then it's a mission. The mot is this week so we'll find out soon enough!
It's great having this site for help but to be honest I'm more nervous than before! Everyone's at least an amateur mechanic and all I know about cars is how to drive them ha! So as there's really nothing I can do myself except wash the wee thing this is going to be an expensive journey...and there seems to be few owners/enthusiasts in Scotland.
As for the polish plates, can any of you recommend insurance companies who will insure on the VIN? Nobody seems to recognise the model (1997, badges say 126el logbook says 126p ?) and are reluctant to insure without UK registration but I need insurance to get the registration in the first place!!
I've probably bitten off more than I can chew here (or at least more than I can afford!) but wow hes such a little beauty I can't stop smiling :)

 Welcome to the forum.
For insurance try P.D.James. If I remember, we had our 95/el insured with them on the chassis number.
Don`t worry about your mechanical skills too much. These cars are very simple to work on.
I`ll keep my fingers crossed for the MOT.
Let us know how you get on.

Hi and welcome, there are a few members in Scotland, there is one in Edinburgh and I live in the Airdrie area.  Look at the members location map.  So you're not to far away from help.
