Hi everyone, new owner of an off the road 126 Bis :)

Hi everyone,

So today I picked up my off the road BIS. It's a J plate Blue 126 bis and it needs a little work to be put back together... It appears its been off the road for 10 years so it should be fun although its had new brake drums, battery, head gasket (although I may like to check this over myself), thermostat housing and some other bits and pieces.

The engine needs all the cooling system plumbing up, a gasket for the exhaust manifold and a general once over before attempting to be started. I'm not sure where to start in all honestly, is there any decent workshop manuals out there for the bis? . I haven't located any piping on spares websites just yet and I didn't notice any with the car so any assistance with that would be appreciated.

Look forward to getting it on the road though and sitting in it and looking at it just makes me smile .

it's well worth becoming a subscriber for the info, and also sometimes a bis workshop manual comes up on ebay, and usually doesn't cost much either

Welcome. Workshop manuals are pretty much non existent, in English even less so. All the manuals that are available are in the subscribers section. So become a subscriber and ask questions of the forum and you should be ok.

I will have a look at the piping when the storm goes away, I can't think of any special split or expanding pipes so it should be possible to use non BIS specific pipe work.

Well today we had a quick look at the engine, apparently it had a new thermostat housing... I went to look and... there isn't one there. There appears to be a cap missing from the distributor (At least I think thats what it is, at the very rear of the car?), theres a plug out of the head at the moment I also noticed and there is some radiator piping however I think it may be on backwards because it doesn't want to quite fit lol. All gears appear to select ok... Also, the air filter... it appears half of it is missing. Any pics on what it should look like or what I should do instead of the stock filter?

Well... Appears the head gasket hasn't been done after all as I could see it leaking after filling her up today and sorting out a few missing bits and pieces. The exhaust is off and wondering if there's any more tips for cylinder head  removal,  ie.  Rocker shaft  removal steps, best regards.
