1981 White aircooled
« on: October 06, 2013, 08:52:30 PM »
Hi all,

time to introduce my 126 to the club.

Started life in Germany in expert and careful hands...

...then came home and changed shoes...

...then it had its rear arches cut to fit them...

...has lost some weight elsewhere...

here she is

Big hello to all the club

Andre

Thanks Chris for the welcome,

all the major work has been carried over by a nice German chap, it has to be said. He did a masterful job in restoring the shell.

Nonetheless I am very proud of the new "direction" the project has taken with me.

mods so far:
- widened
- lowered
- 165/55 13" wheels
- front disk brakes
- a few extra dials inside

What it needs now:
- carb tuning
- bigger steering wheel
- a few more horses

planned for the future (coming in at sluggish pace):
- fiberglass engine lid
- 5th gear - the ability to cruise and travel
- suspension adjustments
- a bigger project involving the engine is under evaluation, nothing radical though, no engine sills will be harmed  ::)

Thanks Marc for the welcome.
Gosh, am I proud of it. The only downside is that I found it can't quite be the daily driver, a role the 126 excels at.

Cheers,

Andre

I don't normally like mods and huge changes but it looks ace!! sounds like he's done a lot. Guessing it wasn't cheap either!!

It has tall seats from last series sold in Poland (Happy End?). Quite shallow profile, but not half bad, even when I rag it.

It was a fair deal, I have to say. Very, very sensible price. The car was meant to be a keeper I think. I struck it lucky.
No contest with the prices some italians are selling even lightly modded 500s, in the region of 15000 Eur..

And, by the way, I always had a soft spot for the 126.

Thanks Rob!

I'm waiting some bits for a 740 engine build and maybe, just maybe, a fiberglass engine lid.

Can't wait...very special cars indeed, these 126s...

Ooh, nice! :)

I'd be happier getting something delivered in an actual crate than anything else. :)
