there is a clamp which hold the distributor down. Tighten this bolt its just one bolt, you cant really mis it?

ok the 13 mm bolt on the bottom below th distributer got it
i thought it was one of the many flat headed screws lol
doh
any idea what size the air cleaner bolt is ?

with the timing will it suffice to set it by ear ie start the engine then listen for a slightly smoother running at higher revs or do i have to do it properly with a light not really bothered by max power at this stage just starting in the morning more important

Yea mate you can set it by ear,but you'll need to road test it as well and reset it at the side of the road.Take it a drive and find a fairly shallow incline,go up it and see if the car start's pinking(in fact you want it to be)then, adjust the dizzy back (very slightly each time)until the wee donkey stop's(pinking that is) :D

used a 1" m6 coach bolt from work :-) sorted

i think i have set the timing now??!! so the engine was almost racing turned it back but not too far so it was lumpy had a few stutters on the way to work seems fine now wud prolly prefer retarded ignition if it means easier starting as it has to be reliable lmao yeah right thanks for the help  every1

i was talking to the old bloke who ran thi motor museum in wikltshire and he said to me make sure your is ignition slightly retarded, becase we are running unleaded, sumut to do with octane level i think he said.

I think you just have to set timing to what your car wants, like David (126cab) used his timing gun to set mine to factory specs, but because my carb is dodgy it ran quite rough, so its probbaly best to find what your car likes by the method uve set it with.
