1976 Fiat 126 for sale (possibly)...
« on: April 05, 2013, 08:18:36 AM »
I'm thinking of selling one of my cars to raise some funds to help keep my other cars going.

I always get attached to my cars so I have not yet fully decided but thought it worth testing the interest and would be really pleased if it were to go to a genuine enthusiast with the means and skills to get it back to mint on the road condition.

It's a 1976 air cooled in a wonderful and original maroon colour.

It's in need of a full restoration but has a solid body (with some welding including replacement front panel) needed.  It has the majority of the original parts there including seats, engine, gearbox, lights etc. The bodywork absolutely needs attention and a new paint job.  I can't load pictures but very happy to take some later today and e-mail them across to anyone who is interested.

I'm not really open to offers (I think I'd rather keep it) but would consider £1,000 for a quick sale as is or £1500 if I am able to get it through a MOT within the next 6 weeks.  It's breaking my heart just writing this note so if anyone is interested then please be quick as I am very likely to change my mind in a week or so and keep it until I find some more cash and can do it myself.

Tom - you know my cars better than I do!

I bet you can even guess where it's parked (!!)

I'm sad to be selling but it's costing more than expected to make my other cars mint so needs must.

Fingers crossed it will go to a good home and I'll still get to see it at shows.

It's a lovely colour and will make a unique restoration (I've not seen any other early 70's models around in this colour) so will be great to see it done properly by someone with the will and the skill.

I knew it was OPD as it is the only 1976 126 I have ever seen, and I remember it being on eBay a while back as I was going to buy it myself.

Despite needed resto, it looks good in the pictures.

Thanks, Tom, it's sold now (subject to receiving a deposit this weekend) to a forum member who sounds rock solid and is planning a restoration back to original condition.  I'm part regretting it already but at least it's going to a good home and will free up some funds to help mintify my other cars.

Down to just the 5 now, will have to either stay at home or catch the bus 2 days a week now...

Thanks, Tom...there's actually several variations on the 'mint' verb.

Minted - is the state you need to be in before you even think about restoring a Fiat 126
Mintificate - is the stage when you start to think more deeply about it
Mintify - is when you start to make it happen
Minter - is the person you get to help you (and can also be used to describe the end result)
Mint - is (hopefully) the end result

The verb is exclusive to Fiat 126 (and a specific model within the VW range...)

 ;D
