German Fiat 126 Bambino engine.
« on: June 16, 2012, 01:57:12 PM »
Probably a question for one of our continental bros but does anyone know if the German Bambino engines were designed to run on unleaded petrol ?  :)

Personally (That means could be wrong)  ???

The square heads were on the early 126s. (up to late 80s, very early 90,s) so I would be suprised if they were.

It's fine as long as we also talk of Roundheads to keep it balanced. eg. That Cromwell used to take things a bit seriously didn't he.

Now then , now then !  :$
Well the thing is that the Bambino head apart from being square has a number of other differences. The spark plugs fit into a deep steel liner and the head mounting stud holes also have a steel liner . So a robust build with a bit more bulk that will help to disipate heat like the Panda 30 head .

On a Dutch forum I read that every 126, since engine code 126 A1.076/E, may run unleaded. I also checked the German forum and after reading some posts I believe no one there runs on leaded, square or not, old or young.

In the Polish sources - the heads since 1990 - appropriated for unleaded gasoline.

PS - all of the 126 are good for unleaded... Do you thing it's the main problem!?!?!?!?  :$

Thanks for the input guys  :)
It is just that I have this Bambino cylinder head which was mis-sold to me as a Panda 30 head a couple of years back. There are issues/problems with fitting this head but I think I have come up with ideas about how it can be made to be interchangeable with a regular head. The head came with a large twin choke side draft Solex (like a Weber 40 dcoe) carb & manifold that some idiot had tried to bodge fit it. I am still thinking of reviving this project and if the head is OK for unleaded fuel then that gives me more incentive  ;D

The old twin choke, side draught solex is a really good, nice sounding carb. I recommend relocating the airfilter to the back of the shed, sounds lovely there.
