1990 126 BIS with Brand New Engine - For Sale?
« on: September 14, 2011, 01:41:12 PM »
Hi everyone

Long time no speak/type!  I'm afraid it's all gone a bit wrong with the little car...having had numerous problems with carb and cutting out and after obtaining an engine mount from Landyman (thanks!), the final straw has been some idiot has tried to break in and steal it!  Metal bracket that keeps steering wheel etc in place was ripped off and as a result the ignition barrel has disppeared into the ether!!

Anyway, he's getting picked up to go into the garage today to get fixed up and once he's back up and running I'm seriously considering selling him...think it's been a bridge too far for me to be honest and as much as I love these cars, i think they should be owned by people who have the time and expertise to maintain them - and unfortunately that isn't me.

Long story short - it's a 1990, 33,000 miles, new engine fitted Aug 2010 (about 100 miles on it), tax and MOT Feb 2012...

Can anyone give me some advice re selling and/or make me a (sensible!) offer...

Will be sad to see him go,

Thanks,

Mhairi

Mmmm. I don't think you will get your money back, sorry not trying to be rude at all.

1st  Car is in Scotland (prices seem to be lower)

2nd A huge amount invested , new engine !!!!!! etc

3rd  Sadly prices at this time of year always take a dip.

Remember we all have up's and downs in life, so do our little cars. You can't abandon him at his time of need.   :$ :D

I am really sorry to hear what happened to your 126 Bis and also your decision to sell him. You and I are similar, in that both of us do not have the time and expertise. I am a little bit of a mechanic but oftentimes, do not have the time to fix things.

If you have persistent problems with the carb, I would just change it for a new one. That was what they did to mine - problem solved. For good measure as it is over 20 yrs old, the fuel pump and the thermostat were also replaced. Also gave it a full service. The carbs and the bits, I think were reasonably priced. It has been running quite well up until the drive coupling episode.

Saw your post about the Fiat.  Is it still for sale?  Have you any idea what price you are looking for?
