Half a Car Fiat 126 Trailer
« on: May 01, 2011, 04:24:41 PM »
As you may have read (discusted or not) I chopped up my little 126 and turned it into a trailer.

It was originally to be a towable BBQ but decided it was probably more desirable just as a trailer for shows and the like as the boot space isnt exactly huge in the 126.

Indicators do just that job. Side lights are still side lights and full beam is now brake lights. All working.

Bonnet is now opened with a lever on the wing.

So anyway, its just too small and low on the back of my truck and just a bit heavy for my bike so here it is for sale.

Looking at offers, Stuck it on Gumtree at £300 so close to that would be a step in the right direction.

Call or txt me on 07708 316447

I'm interested but I'm currently away at sea and won't be able to collect until mid-late June. Would you be able to keep hold of it until then?

Wheels are just standard wheels turned inside out, not safe to be towed like this I wOuldnt think as hole and stud are both raised edges meaning it's hard to keep the studs tight, it does look cool like banded steels though. Because lt has no brakes on it the wheels sit in the arches further than standard.

Yes I would keep it till mid-late June with a holding deposit.

i thought he was taking the p*** in the first place anyhow as i thought this forum was for keeping the 126 on the road not in the garden as a barbecue.... but alas to say even this "project" ended up as all others do as being sold on ebay as a "great chance to purchase my lovely project as i have just nearly finished it but due to......" we all know the story!

A real waste of a good car, and from my own namesake too ... for shame!

I am with you guys as well. I am quite glad that other members felt the same. It was absolutely shameful. Made worst by the fact that there are so few UK 126s left on the road.

I find this a tricky subject, as it was with the 500 club.
Ownership, is not a gaurantee of preservation. People are allowed to make their own choices with the items they have bought with their own money.
While I don't agree with the idea of turning a restorable car into a bbq/trailor, there is no warning upon joining the club that this is not accepted.
If these projects are to be discouraged by the club, then it needs to be mentioned well in advance to allow other members to leave or not join at all as applicable.
Rust does not discriminate

We were all kind of aware of your point, hence none of us said anything at the onset. At some point, Fraz13 knew he was going to get some backlash from members, and he did! We were simply voicing out our displeasure of what was done and for good reason. I am sure there will be more of these type of "projects" in the future. Hopefully, we can dissuade owners from embarking on projects similar to this. Anyway, this is just my opinion.

At the end of the day, it was his choice what he did with his car. What annoys me most is that he's destroyed the car and then decided it wasn't worth it and sold it off. An absolute waste of a good car tbh.
