Hello from Northern Ireland
« on: January 23, 2011, 10:57:09 AM »
Hi all. Since I bought a 126 yesterday I thought I better join so you guys can keep me right when it's time to restore my car.

Its a 79 De-ville with 36K from new. The interior is a good clean from being excellent but the body is going a bit. It will need new sills, front wings and rear wheel arches to sort it out.
I actually bought it for a mate in england to take on as a project but its a bit further gone than we thought so I'm not sure he will take it. I'm happy to keep it though as it would fit in well with my little collection.

Anyway I'll shutup for now and go have a little nosey round the forum. here's a couple of photos of it when I lifted it yesterday, the rest are here http://www.maranellohouse.com/fiat126.html as I'll be keeping a record of how thing go once I start into it.

Nice website.
Looks like you been through a couple of 126's already.

Save any of the bits like engines or gearbox?

I'm afraid I didn't, and wish I'd had.  :(

Pity because a 1973 is desirable and all panels still available....didn't look like alot more work than this one you have  :(

Hi Stu,  (-* to the forum

To a man of your talents the 126 shouldn't be a problem going by the other Resto's you've done, Great choice of Italian classics :P  look forward to seeing your 126 back on the road :)

I've never seen one that rusty before lol only when you see pics of them living out of a bush lol
As for the rust around the windows it will be holes actually in the frame that need welding, a bit more than surface rust so pull the windows out and sort it before water damage destroys that lovely interior. :-) keep us posted ;-)

I thought you might! from spending the last hour looking at your site.  8)
I always fancied a Sisley 4x4, my first car legally on the road was a fiat panda. It was mint to say the least the old guy that previously owned it took it too fiat if it run out of screen wash! Thousands of pounds in recipts more than the car purchase price and then some moron in a mercedes jumped a red light and squashed it. :-( I sold it to someone for hill climbing!   ;)

Thank you.

I'm sure you were gutted with a Panda with that type of history.

I intend for this Sisley to be the last one I build so I'm going to build in a few little luxuries, electric windows, central locking and a tuned Seicento Sporting engine. But it will be done in a way that the car still looks original.

I have to get the MK1 done first though.

Hi Stu , welcome & that little car looks to have a lot of potential as although rusty it looks totaly original. I agree with your thoughts on the body repairs. I chopped up a body shell last year that was a bit worse than your's looks. When I got it upside down I could see that a lot of the more structural lower body shell parts were totaly shot . New floors , inner & outer sills would not have made the car safe. Also agree about what looks like the remarkable condition of the interior. A lot of those fabric seats seemed to start self destructing after about 20,000 miles. One point of interest , the centre consul on the tunnel looks to be brown. Have it been painted  ??? [-/

Hi and thank you Sir. As far as I'm aware the cars completely original but I'll check the consul next time I'm at the shed to see if its original and let you know.

The car does indeed have a lot of potential and as I've always regretted having to split the little chrome bumpered 126 I had years ago, I'm going to make sure this one is done right. Now that's if my mate on the mainland who I actually bought the car for as he hasn't time to get over to lift it at the moment decides not to take it on. Which I sort of hope he doesn't now I've the car home. Sorry Neil
