Air-cooled 126 Brown
« on: June 18, 2010, 01:53:54 PM »
Hi everyone,
It's with a heavy heart I'm offering my pride & joy up for sale.
She has to make way for the new addition to the family (900t Amigo camper).
I'd love to keep hold of her as I doubt I will ever have such a nice an example as this again but I just haven't got the space (or the money) to be able to keep both.
She's a 1983 Air-cooled Brown model (with heated rear screen, pop out rear windows and rear seat belts!)
She has covered less than 15000 miles from new.
She has been dry stored for the last 18 years!
I have only driven 450 miles in the 5 months that I have owned her.
When I bought her I treated her to a full service (new plugs, leads, condenser, distributor cap, points, air filter, fuel filter, oil filter cleaned and new o ring fitted, fresh oil, carb service, new float, fuel tank drained, brake check, new brake cylinders, fresh brake fluid and transmission oil, kingpins greased, wheel bearings checked and repacked, valve clearances adjusted, timing and idle adjusted, etc.)
I love the look of the early 126s but the extra little bit of power & comforts of the late model so I've made her look a bit older than she actually is to have the best of both worlds.
I've removed all of the plastic trim, bumpers and mirrors (which I still have and are included in the sale), added NOS Italian chrome bumpers with rubber centre strip, Porsche 356 wing mirror and chrome side trim.
She now rides on 13" Fiat x19 alloys (with spare) with brand new Nankang 165/55/13 tyres all round. (the wheels and tyres were £350 alone and the tyres have only covered 400 miles!) I was going to keep hold of them and put them on the camper but they look so good on the car it would be a shame to remove them.
It has a much nicer stance than stock due to being lowered by about 35mm (reverse eye leaf spring and new shorter shocks up front, shorter coils in the rear).
She now looks amazing and drives like a brand new car.
When I bought the car I was amazed at the condition it was in. The body had never been welded and it was 99% rust-free, it even still wears its factory underseal. The only issue was a small matchbox sized hole in the spare wheel well, where water had obviously been sat whilst in storage. This has been welded up and a new boot rubber fitted.
It's in amazing condition for a 27 year old Fiat! The cloth interior is near mint.
I'd almost had her exactly as I wanted when a certain Amigo drove into my life.
I have a full set of aluminium window surrounds (inside and out) and early stainless door handles which I was going to fit but never got around to, these are also included in the sale, as are the period Eversure roofrack, original leaf spring, trim, bumpers, mirrors, a box of odd bits and some spares.
The only bad bits I can think of are: petrol gauge doesn't work (I've never looked into it but I would imagine it would just be a simple wire), small 10p sized tear in the rear parcel shelf, the engine could do with a paint (if you're that way inclined) and some idiot must have backed into me last week when I was parked up as the front bumper now has a dent and there is a small crease in the front panel (see photos), these are not that noticeable and I'm sure they could easily be knocked out.
She comes with 7 months tax & MOT.
I'm after £1750 which I think is fair considering the condition, the amount that I have spent on her and the prices I have seen average 126s going for recently.
If you have any more questions don't hesitate to get in touch.
About 50 photos of the car can be viewed here:

If you have any more questions or would like to view the car give me a call on 07922008429. (I'll be away at the Glastonbury festival from Wednesday 23rd for a week). I'm in Brighton.
I'll be listing it on ebay next week if there are no takers. I thought I would offer it up on here first as I would prefer it to go to a good home and a Fiat enthusiast.
Cheers
Simon

In my description I stated the car is a 1983, for some reason I was convinced this was correct but I checked the V5 this morning and it was registered in 1985. Sorry
