Disc Brake Adaptor Plates
« on: October 24, 2009, 01:46:18 PM »
OK I think that all of you guys that showed an interest in my disc brake design project for the cars running 13" wheels have got the plates now . Also I know that some of you guys tracked the ones I put on eBay which produced some great results which all helps as this is an ongoing project that I have sunk a lot of time & money into. The next phase will be a better set up for the 12" wheels as I have severe reservations about the ones that are currently available at a very high cost. In the meantime I have had a batch of plates made with a slightly modified profile & the slight reduction in weight means that I can now supply a set of plates for £26 including recorded post. This is a Club126uk forum price which I will hold for 4 weeks. I have also shipped to Europe & the US so let me know if you are interested  [-/

Rusty what you done to make them lighter?

I havn't done my conversion yet, I've been pre-occupied with electronic ignition.... and the thought in the back of my head is...

In winter, it might just be my driving, I tend to loose the front-end grip quite often, on bits of what I call 'green tar', it's ok it's just a bit of scarey understeer and it normally comes back to me, if I'm going some, a little flick of the steering sends all four wheels into a bit of a drift

Ok ok so it's what keeps me so happy with the car, they're not fast so we might as well have fun in the corners!

But I'm worried that the brake bias will change even more to the front, fine in summer.

Anyhow, I'm planning to do the conversion in spring so interested in the lighter plates

Hi Darrell , Pretty simple explanation , when I saw the odd designs that had been produced they ranged between crude rustic bodge jobs & ones that seemed to be shaped with some other application in mind due to the odd profile.
Once I settled on the design for the Cinque / Seicento callipers I came up with a drawing where the outside profile consisted totaly of curves & radii . Then having had no experience of having items made by laser cutting I chickened out a little & produced the design which was lighter and shaped to be funtional but went back to some straight edges. I had absolutely no idea how much laser cut custom items would cost & in my early talks with the guys they told me that setting the computer programme then the material costs were the main thing so I played safe.
Then after sinking mucho dinero y tiempo into this project some of you guys went for my plates then a few good results on eBay have bought me close to breaking even.
So in anticipation of an ongoing demand I had a word with the laser cutting guys & for a fee they modified the computer programme with all the curves & I had another batch made. As for weight the curves only reduced the weight of a plate by 32 gramms but it meant that for postage they came into the lower price range  [-/
