500 or early 126 steering idler arm support etc
« on: October 05, 2009, 01:43:20 PM »
hi guys and hello from sunny malaysia  8).....now, im after a replacement RHD idler arm support for my 850 coupe, as far as i understand this part is shared with the RHD steering box equiped 500 and 126, does anyone have one for sale? i need a good condition used or NOS one, preferably without undue wear and definitly no cracks in the alloy housing (as mine has)..........im also after a small part as well, its the plastic bit that accepts the throttle cable thats fitted on the crank arm on the rocker box of aircooled 126/500's...mines melted !!
apart from some outragously priced idler arm supports i cant find these on ebay at all

any help tracking down these bits would be most welcome..

mick i assume you recieved the kite for the last 'job' ?........and hope your 'racer' project is moving forward faster than my coupe !!

The idler rebuild kit is not too expensive but I know the RHD one you mean. Rumour has it that the rebuild is a bit of a mare but if your housing is busted then you have a bigger problem. I have just put in an order for some new & used parts from Ricambio 500 spares (or something like that) who have re-emerged on eBay. I should get my delivery this week & I was going to mention it on here when I had checked out the goods but the prices of new & used parts were extremely good to say the least. I think they have some used 126 engine parts plus some cars on eBay at the moment. Good luck  [-/

ah thanks for the reply rustys uncle, yea i hear that there easy to break when fitting the kit, mines not worn, just the top housing is cracked, i found that out today as i stripped out all the front end......ive got time to look for a replacement, the car is yet to go for welding etc.......and EVERYTHING over here takes twice as long as you might expect......i posted on here 'cause there are some early 126's around..and one or 2 500's that have had the rack swop too.....maybe the bracket i need is sitting on a shelf somewhere!!

lets see what turns up.

update, well today i located locally some bushes, (of all places to find 500/600 and 850 parts on the shelf i would have said Kuala Lumpur would be the last !) and have had the brkt welded....hopefully this will sort it out....i searched all my local contacts and was told these are just not availible !.....

thanks for the input and offer of a part (lad)...i hope its now sorted....

i also picked up a clutch kit amongst other things from this chinese owned motor factors...complete with Abarth signage still in place above the counter........the old chinese guy still has all the old parts books, and 124/131 stuff in stock too....amazing... :P

None of that surprises me at all as the main car manufacturers have a very long history of deliberately destroying "old stock" parts . My Dad who has just turned 88 tells me stories about how he was told to ditch loads of new parts in the late 40's including brand new boxed Klaxon horns !
Some years ago I got first shout on some Sunbeam Talbot parts that were gathering dust in a Malta garage & managed to pick up the only ever known aluminium cylinder head for a 30's car.
That is old stuff but in the last few weeks I posted a request on a Fiat forum for information or parts for a rare twin choke Weber carb that may be appearing on an engine sometime next year. A guy in New Zealand responded and we are now trading parts & a carb is on it's way  [-/
