Hi Trudy,
Looks as though you've found a nice bargain there. I own a 1978 Polish 126 (Left hand drive), which I bought about 5 months ago. They certainly are quirky little cars but good fun and fairly easy to maintain.
I'll try to answer a couple of your questions-
Someone said get the lights sorted. So what do i need and from where?(are there other models who's lights would fit?)
Judging from your photos the passenger side headlight looks fine but the drivers side one is very dark. This indicates that the reflector at the back of the light is rusty, so the lamp unit will need replacing.
Unfortunately headlights for right hand drive (rhd) 126s are no longer produced. They are available 2nd hand but are starting to fetch a lot of money, the last pair on eBay went for around £65 + p&p. Your best bet is to buy a LHD lamp (which are still made), I think they're about £15. Carefully separate the lenses from the reflectors, on the new lhd lamp and your knackered rhd one, and glue the new reflector onto the old lens. I think there are more detailed instructions somewhere on this forum.
Can I leave the original number plate on? It has raised numbers.
Yes, you can keep that number plate on the car.
Should i respray the car in its original colour? My four year old wants me to do it pink and i think it would look great in pink. (We are very girlie lol)
That's totally up to you. Personally I'd paint it British Racing Green because I don't like pink or yellow :smt078 , but I am a man! It's your car, you can do whatever you want.
Happy motoring, Steve.
