any idea what caused the pin prick holes?
and how did you repair them?

It was the dreaded Rust Monster I'm afraid.

Magic stuff, that chemical metal

All I need now is a new rocker cover and a proper gasket.

Looks like Ebay will be getting another battering

Looks like a new rocker cover then.

The chemical metal did not work it seems. The car has been stood all week, and there is oil on the exhaust again.

Anybody any ideas where I could get one? :roll:

Well, after 3 weeks of searching, I finally located a rocker cover.

Quite reasonable at ?17.00. Also got a new gasket for under a fiver from my local Automotive factors.

Just need to fit them now.

Just waiting for the carrier to deliver my most recent Ebay find of a full set of 5 alloys from an X1/9. I just hope they fit :shock:

Can anyone give me advice on filling the trim holes?
Is it best to weld small plates on from the back, and they smooth over with filler? :

I personally would not weld them, you might end up with some distortion on the panels.

I would remove all the paint around the hole area back and front with an electric rotary wire brush, use isopon P40 on the back of the hole (a thin layer) and ordinary filler and stopper on the front part of the hole.

Sand down and use a fine wet & dry paper to finish off. Dont forget the paint the rear side where the P40 is applied to stop any damp coming from the rear.

I'll give it a go on the one that has a rusty bit on the door where the trim has been.

At least then I can get it done proffesionally if it all goes pearshaped.
