Fiat 126 Bis - Hesitant acceleration
« on: March 11, 2020, 12:08:44 PM »
Weirdly, occasionally, the first three or four seconds of accelerating, the engine hesitates and then it is fine. Also, usually the car is happy to be driven at leisurely pace (i.e. slightly undergeared), but now it hesitates, and I have to shift to a lower gear to go slightly faster.

It probably needs a service. When the engine was rebuilt (August 2019), it was decoked and was given new spark plugs. I recently changed the fuel filter, and it seems to improve a bit, but it still hesitates. Could it be the fuel pump? Just looking at the receipts, I think my fuel pump is still the original one.

Hi, I'm got a similar issue on my aircooled.

I've bought a few pieces to install an electric fuel pump but not fitted it yet. I still need to get a relay and figure out the best way to wire it and run the fuel line.  Lots of other threads here on this subject.

In the meantime, I have just ordered a new mechanical pump.  I'm interested to see if it will make a difference over the old one.  I'll post back after the weekend with my results.
