accelerator stuck ??

hello there i have been asked about a problem from some one i havent been in touch with for a while about there 126 . and wondered if anyone can help me ??

they have told me , there accerator pedal . reaches the floor and is operating at the carb end, but doesnt return back into position ?? it just stays stuck down ?? anyone got any ideas please??

the car has been stood for 6 years and they have just come across the stuck pedal ?

like i said , it all orerates at carb end ? just inside the car is doesnt return upwards ?? on its own accord ?

anyone help me please

p.s got my 500l nipples today, and found out i need a brake juction box now, so ive ordered it and maybe soon i will have brakes on it...

brakes are very overrated, they do nothing to make the car go faster, in fact some have been known to even slow the car down, must admit it is not so much of a problem with older cars but the new ones are pretty bad, especially these new fangled disc things, so be warned those of you thinnking of fitting them to your bolides.

i am having this agro at the mo ! i dont realy care though as i am junking the car soon . all i do is pull it back up with the side of my foot...  also on motorways its cruise control!! if in traffic and it sticks down just depress clutch pedal and brake as normal i find the pedal rises up on its own slowly , if not kick it........sorry its not usefull advice!!

Put a return spring on it somewhere, its probably supposed to have one at the carb end but its broke or something so take a closer look.

hello slate , its got one ?? i mean a spring at the carb end ?
maybe its not strong enough to return it?

and maybe my friend repaced it with a inferiour part ...

It will be either the cable or the pedal this is based on my 500 and some help from Brian Rylance.

The cable needs disconnecting at either end and pulling through - you can then decide whether its worth keeping or needs junking. Check the condition of the cable cover at the rear end - it might be split or kinked. Squirt a little oil in the cable cover at the front end.

The pedal...

Remove the seat (its just easier), pull the carpet/mat out the way and and unbolt the pedal from the from the floor. See if it spins freely in its outer tube.  
As its out I'd clean it up anyway - remove the clip that holds it in position at the cable end, spray both ends with WD40 and then slide the pedal rod up and down its shaft, cleaning up what you can see with emery cloth and wd40.  It might be really stiff and rusty, in which case you can drill a couple of 2mm holes in the outer shaft about 1 inch from each end and keep spraying in some 3in1 or wd40 and flushing out any rust. There are nylon bushes at the ends of the shaft which need to be kept intact so don't drill through them or put anything in the shaft that will degrade them. Keep moving the shaft up, down around, cleaning up and using oil or wd40 until it seems restored and spins freely in the shaft. When all is well, grease each end and plug the holes with grease if you drilled them. Grease the floor bolts when you put it all back.

yes i have found out what was making the pedal stick down! it means its going to break! for me it was on the m2 on the way to uxbridge. had to botch accelerator cable using choke cable directly through the car and assist acceleration with my hand.....so change it while you can richard!

ive had a tug at it carb end and it slides back and forth easy . inside itself .

so therefore it must be the pedal sticking ??

i will remove it and see what happens ..

if need be ive got a new accerator cable i reckon that i brought when i had my 126 i can try that.

but i am confident its the pedal sticking ?  

as its stiff as hell

The pedal setup can get quite rusty as it all gets wet when you have wet feet.

i will dismantel the pedal set up best i can and give it a good blast with wd40 and 3 in one oil

see if that does the trick

richard trust me i was convinced it was the pedal sticking but it is the cable telling you its time up buddy! mine went on the m 2 on sunday morning i fixed it with boy scout mechanics, but dont leave it to that.
