Hi. I'm in the process of buying a scruffy 126 "de Ville", X-reg.

This is my second 126. The first was a Y-reg, with a BMW badge.., both cars are / were air-cooled.

I wish there had been a 126 owner's club when my first 126 went bang. :cry:
I ended up part-x-ing it for a crappy Ford. :evil:

Anyhow, can anyone tell me a bit more about the X-reg de Ville? Is it "FSM", does it have the Polish engine? Is it supposed to have bumpers? If so, what kind? :???:

I think I still have the 126 Haynes manual, and I also have a "126 personal 4" owners handbook, so I should be ok there..

Hi, welcome! Your car should be an Italian built 126 with an Italian engine. The personal 4 is in fact a de ville, same car. Think it should have the smaller plastic bumpers, but chrome would look cool!

Welcome mate.Yes the chrome does suit the car,however,It will pass the mot without bumpers (no sharpe edges) but you will need to mount a number plate light and a fog light (which you can take off again after the test as they look horrendous) :lol:

welcome to the forum m8, wow an x reg devill, where did you find that?

i hope you are able to ge6t some pics posted up on here soon. I think the deville looks great with the small black bumpers.

Hmm. Bit of a hassle.

I bought the car from a chap in NORTON, thinking it was Norton, Stockton. Turns out it was Norton, MALTON, 40 miles away.

We've arranged for him to drop it off tonight, though, so I'll be able to post some details etc very soon.

o dear m8 sorry to hear about the transport probs. There is some rough bits on it, but easily patched up?, will you be doing the work youself? From the pics it looks as thought its all there. Is that engine oil all over the engine/bay?

i was admiring it on ebay, when it was on, will you be aiming to get it on the road straight away? Would be great ith this weather! :D

The 126 arrived last night, INSIDE a tranny van. 5 minutes hassling with ramps, and it was out. The neighbours were intrigued/appalled!

It's fairly rough, but runs. (Been stood for a while). It's badged as a 126 Personal 4, but the log book says "de ville".  

I got a bit of it's story from the owner: it was owned by "Hobbsport", and the engine has been "tuned". It has an ABARTH badge...
It also has 135/70 tyres on 13" rims. That's not normal, is it? I seem to remember my old 126 ran on 135 * 12s...
What SHOULD the wheels look like? Mine have no trims of any kind..

The driver's side has a few dents etc where some scrotes apparently pushed it onto it's side..

The HOBBSPORT connection probably explains the lack of bumpers. There is a foglight mounted high on the back, and part of the license plate lamp is missing.


So, my list so far is:
Drivers door mirror.
Sunroof catch.
BRAKES! (Seized)
Rear light cluster (passenger side)
Indicator repeater (drivers side)
Bumpers?
Front wing (drivers side)?
Drivers door?

The look on my neighbour's face when we opened the side door on the tranny van to reveal the front of a car INSIDE the van was a classic. He nearly fell off the stool he was using to gawp over the hedge with....

Anyone who wasn't already paying attention soon got interested when it started up. It is LOUD!

The kids think it's hilarious, and my 2-yr-old was in there like a shot!

sounds ok mate!!! Are you pleased with it?

the bumpers should be the small plastic ones, (not like the ones on the BIS or late FSm aircooled)

if its badged a deville then im sure it is one, i could understand it more if it was made to look like a deville. i.e. with a webasto sunroof.

with regard to wheel size they have put 13" 126 BIS wheel rims on it, youre right they should have 12"'s, the BIS was the only model to have 13"'s

The problem we are seeing is everyone is labeling the engines "Abarth" when there could be not even one sports part in there. They label them Abarth because the 650 was the largest engine and many 500's owners like them. Does the car havce a sports exhaust?

what do you plan to do? put it back to orginal?

My initial plan is to get the engine running, brakes sorted, and put it through an MOT.

It all depends on what happens at the MOT...

I'd rather get it sorted and drive it, but both time and money are scarce, so it MAY end up being sold on to someone with more of them. (time and money, that is)

I'll start a thread somewhere more appropriate, and keep you informed (unless you can move this thread elsewhere..)

as i said before, a personal 4 is a deville, i have never seen a deville badge, they always seem to have personal 4 badges.
