Have you crushed the spacer, it can be difficult to crush. I had to use a 1m lever to crush it. There has been a fair amount of discussion on the forum regarding the difficulty in crushing the spacer. The fiat manual shows the method of setting the torque for the correct bearing resistance. Hope this helps.

I had the exact same problem and could not for the life of me crush the spacer enough to cure the play so I ended up grinding about half a millimetre off one end and it fitted perfectly with no play. Oddly this was only an issue on one of the wheels so it maybe down to different perks having different tolerances.

I did recently read about a guy who put the spacer in a large vice to get the spacer to start to crush then assembled the bearings for the final tightening  :)

It might just be that you need new bearings (if they are old) as I believe that the wheels are menat to have a certain degree of play in them...

I've noticed a massive amount of play in mine. I have bought all new bearings so I will be interested to see how it plays out when I get to that part...

thanks for all help i had a go putting spacer in my vice but i broke one of the jaws trying to get the spacer to crush ;D need a new vice now  :o
so in the end i put the bearings and spacer in the hub and got a long bar and did it that way
but was amazed how much pressure it took to crush the spacer.
i thought the threads on the nut or hub would not take it i was having to tighten it so much to get it to the spacer to crush.
but all is well now until next time
