Fire into 500 update
« on: June 22, 2006, 10:54:33 AM »
Engine is finally in and running, just a few things to do like finish connecting up the fan and starter button, get a new throttle cable made up, make a couple of mods to the plumbing, work out how to mount the engine cover and then get it to the rolling road for setting up then it should be ready to hit the road.

In the longer term I need to make a rear valance to cover the rear frame, lookig at euther ally or fiberglass. Oh and I am also looking at fitting a bank of bike carbs which should be a little lower profile and help to bring the rear cover dowwn a little as well as sound great.

blimey Nigel, i take my hat off to you, all the time, patience needed to complete it, All that work has really paid off, well done m8

im sure the weight at rear can be balanced by putting some weight at the front end?

Umm probably, bigger tyres and a camber change should help, will let you know. When I get in there is plenty of weight up front

hat off to you Nigel,...it looks very neat and tidy, how do the two engines compare for weight? ,the motor swap on my rod was easy in comparison, plenty of room and off the shelf parts for chevy conversions,(that ran super traps as well) but setting up the front end was a nightmare....never did get the crash and bang ride over pot holes sorted..........................the first road test should be very interesting for you,i hope it all works well ''straight out the box'' mate

Thougfht I posted this one up earlier today but its gone!!!! so here it is again:

Had the car on the rolling road on Friday – 47bhp at the wheels. I was hoping for 50 but as the standard Seicento Sporting is only 40 at the wheels and my engine is standard at the mo other than the exhaust and a conversion to a 128 Rally carb, its not too bad.

The car is so light – around half a ton – that it feels very nippy indeed, only problem is first gear is so low that it is now redundant, I think I need that BIS crownwheel and pinion ( I have a new one so an innocent 126 will not suffer for my 500, i know some of you are a bit touchy about this)and some bigger wheels and tyres to increase the gearing or a 5 speed conversion on the box.

There is still a myriad of things to finish and tidy up, then I think a roll cage might be a good idea. I am planning to take it to the Ace cafe Italian night on the 13th and the Uxbridge Classic Car show on the 16th.

nice one Nigel.........a mad project taken to fruition instead of just pub/forum talk!!!..........bigger wheels? cromodora CD11 are 13''x 51/2,i think 500's need wheel arch work tho for these to fit.
47BHP........nearly 100 BHP per ton.how does that compare with other modern cars i wonder??.
