Differences in wiring
« on: November 02, 2016, 05:54:07 AM »
Does anyone know if the wiring would be different between the year models for the aircooled? The years I'm inquiring about would be between 81/82 and 88.

  • It's not the carb size that matters, it's the jet

Yes, there are differences because up to '84 it was the Personal 4 and after that the FL which has a different interior etc. I believe both wiring diagrams are in the Haynes manual.

Okay,
So, the 126 has undergone some changes over the years. Up to '77 the first model was built with the 594cc engine, after that they installed the 652cc and made some minor changes, this model was built until 84'ish after gaining some plastic trim begin '80s. After this one came the FL, for Face Lifting, this model has the major overhaul and got plastic all round and another dash with more switches etc, rear fog light and reverse light were also included. This model was built up to '94 and was replaced by the EL which has different bodywork.

But now I come to think of it, I'm not sure what models you got Down Under 'cause even in Western Europe we never got the EL.

That's an FL. Anything specific you need to know about the wiring? Not much electrical going on in our cars  ;D

I need to know if the wiring from an 81/82 model is exactly the same as my car. My wiring has been butchered and i can buy a full harness from an 81/82 model but not sure if it will be compatible with my car. i assume it should. I dont need any of the wiring for the motor and i need to change my guages but i would like to keep all the lighting,  blinkers wipers etc wiring.

Hmm, in '82 there was no fog nor reverse light, rear window heating either I think. Dash is different so buttons are in another spot, Not sure about the interior fan but I don't think they had one. I wouldn't bother with such a harness but instead make it yourself, you can add some fuses and/or better switches and you already have to add wiring for the engine.

Fair call. I was just trying to avoid the extra work. Plus i wanted to keep it plug and play with all the existing lights. All good, just means i have to chase down a wiring diagram for an 88 model then..... Any ideas?

I think a BIS diagram could be useful, never came across one for post '82 air cooled.
