126 bonnet
« on: July 02, 2016, 12:58:31 PM »
I've had to replace every panel in my 126 bar the bonnet! Free to whoever wants it!

Rosso Arancio red, superficial corrosion around the edges, big scratch on top, but otherwise in good nick.

Not that it's any of my business, but being a complete pedant, I am struggling to understand.... if you've replaced every panel *except* the bonnet, how is it you have a spare bonnet? Surely that's the only panel you would *not* have spare ?

And have you really replaced *every* panel? What, floorpans and roof etc? That's quite a rebuild by anyone's standards!

I've obviously misunderstood the situation somehow, but how???

Please put my limited brain cell out of its misery!  Thanks   ;D

Excellent point making there!! I'm afraid you caught me out on my post-shortening creative licence... You're quite right, in fact, if I'd had every panel replaced, I'd've needed that bonnet, but it turned out, my bonnet (and roof and boot lid!) were actually still good. That was all tho, so it's close to an 'all panel' resto!! The bonnet had been given to me, very generously by a local friend, but I had no need after all.
If you watch this space, there will be quite a few other panels coming up, as they're spare too. How, you might ask?? Because some came from Greece, or Poland or Slovakia or Italy or Germany, from eBay and half a dozen random online shops, who all seem to have a different idea of how a 126 measures up!! :-D So basically, quite a few just didn't fit - grr!
I'm going to get all the resto pics up soon to here once it's finished, which should be in the next couple of months... Fingers crossed!

Phew. That was the long answer :-D

Oh dear... sounds like a completely new car made up from parts of other vehicles...  a case for the SVA Type Approval Police...   :o

hopefully in all that lot somewhere you still have an original VIN plate ?  ;)

If the body was so bad as to warrant all this work, what state was the engine in, or is that being replaced bit by bit too?

<cue Johnny Cash: I got it one piece at a time ... >
The first day I got me a fuel pump
And the next day I got me an engine and a trunk
Then I got me a transmission and all of the chrome
The little things I could get in my big lunchbox
Like nuts, an' bolts, and all four shocks
But the big stuff we snuck out in my buddy's mobile home.
