bis heater matrix
« on: October 08, 2015, 09:30:54 PM »
Hi all.
Whats the best thing to clean it out as im sure mines not flowing properly.
The feed pipe going though to the matrix is hot but the heat coming out of the blower doesn't match the heat of the pipes and i think the water must not be flowing through very well.

Ive blead  it a few times and also dont get that much water to flow though so it so want to try and give it a good clean out  :)

Ive actually used cokacola in the past (other cola drinks are avalible) I read about its ability to de scale radiators and maxtrixes in a classic car magazine. Once you fill it up you leave it for 24 hours so it can do its thing then back flush it the next day  :D

You could try disconnecting the pipes and run the engine and check that plenty of coolant is flowing through. Catch it in a container to re-use it. In other words you are checking the water pump is pumping it through properly.

Then you could flush, and back flush the matrix with a hose pipe.

Other thing to check might be that the heater valve is actually working. When you push the lever over to 'hot' it is supposed to open the flow, and they have been known to go, Axel Gerstl sell replacements.

When you reconnect the matrix remember to bleed the heater because air locks can be a problem.

If I remember correctly I got a good improvement in the heater after sorting out my 3 way junction. The one that sits on top of the engine. They get completely blocked up. Run a drill through each of its pipes to restore the bore size and you get back your coolant flow to the heater.
Worth a try.

Also if you are one of the people that runs without a stat most of the time, then putting a new one in for the winter months will help no end.
